FIRST-AID AND CPR COURSES
Keren Yosef collaborates with emergency medical organizations to train people in first-aid and CPR.
There are many situations which may require first-aid, immediate assistance in case of a serious medical condition or injury. First-aid and CPR courses train people to act quickly in the first critical moments before the arrival of emergency medical professionals and to give life-preserving care on the basic level.
Often the on-site response of bystanders during the crucial moments, such as in cardiac arrest or a heavily bleeding injury, can make the difference between life or death. The more people trained to respond on the basic level until emergency medical help arrives, the more people can be saved.
Keren Yosef organizes CPR, first aid and other courses for the benefit of the community.
All Keren Yosef courses are taught by certified instructors.

Deena's Story
"My wonderful downstairs neighbor, Doriz a”h, urged me to join the first-aid course that was being offered by Keren Yosef. At first I wondered if it was something I should do – I was very busy, a mother to a child with another on the way, but in the end that was what led me to realize that yes, it is very important for me and for everyone to take a first-aid course and know how to save a life.
I felt that as a mother it was important to know how to deal with emergency situations; and as a citizen, it was not long after the intifada had ended, and I felt that it was my civil duty as well to know how to deal with emergency situations.
Time passed, our family grew, and little did I know that what I had learned in that course would save my son’s life. When my fourth child was about two and a half we were having a local Lag Ba’omer bonfire and I was holding my son in my arms… All of a sudden I noticed that he was having a hard time breathing, and I realized that the marshmellow that I had given him had become lodged in his throat and he wasn’t able to breath!
It was a very scary situation. At first I started screaming, “My son’s not breathing! Somebody help!” but because there so much going on, so many people and so much noise, nobody actually heard me. In a matter of seconds I realized that I had to do something! And all the knowledge that I had when I took the course, about eight years before this event and not having had to use any of what I’d learned – everything came back to me and I knew what to do in order to save my son’s life. And that’s exactly what happened. I used the technique that learned to dislodge a foreign body from my son’s th
roat and within seconds he was fine – a little shocked, but he started breathing and he was fine.
I will always be incredibly grateful to Doris Mainzer a”h who had urged me to take the course and that I was able to save my son’s life because of it.
Nobody ever knows what situation they might be in… it’s definitely worth taking a course, learning how to do CPR, learning how to save a life, just in case you find yourself in a situation where you can save a person’s life.
I urge anybody who can to take a CPR course, a first-aid course, anything that you can - to have this knowledge that you could use, in case you G-d forbid need it."
